Change The Channel

Whenever you see your mind venture into the idea that, “…well, of course, because I am a negative person and everything is bad in my life…” That should be cause for concern. Immediately stop your thinking process. You are not beholden, nor a prisoner of your thinking. You can question your thoughts. You can question your thinking patterns and choose an alternative flow of awareness, of consciousness. You can change the channel.

But to think for one moment that you are beholden to every single thought that comes into your mind is part of the problem in most of your life episodes. So once you put that kind of thinking aside, every time you notice your mind wander there, immediately stop and say, “Oh yes, I am just falling back into an old pattern. Let’s explore an alternative situation or proposal.” 

And that could have a significant impact in the rest of your day. You are not obliged in any way, shape or form to believe everything and every thought that pops into your mind. If that were the case, you would have long perished as individuals and as a species. You have an innate ability to put the brakes on and then examine the kind of thinking that you want or don’t want and make the appropriate changes.

And it is to your advantage to look into this, to see and practice how you can determine, “Is this the right kind of thinking for me? I don’t particularly like the feeling tone of that, so I want to change.”

Just like if you watch television and you don’t like the show that is being broadcast on a particular station, do you sit there condemning the situation that somehow or other you are forced to watch the show?

Of course not. You would just switch [change] channels. In the same way, you can switch the channel of your thoughts.
