“[Allowing change] is an important aspect here in reference to the ego. It is assumed that the ego dislikes change and wants to maintain the status quo. Regardless if that status quo eventually ends up being harmful. It is not necessarily the case. The ego cannot necessarily override your particular sentiments. So if the individual is more or less dead set that change is a threat, then the ego responds. When change presents its head, it has a freak-out, in your words.

However, a better understanding of the ego is that the ego easily recognizes when certain situations and patterns have become habitual to a harmful degree and recognizes the resistance, though by itself the ego would gladly incorporate changes, especially geared towards a better, widening understanding of self.

The resistance (to change) actually comes from the individual, not the ego. So this can give you a much better perception of how you also all cultivate your experiences of reality. And when you are drawn to something that may precipitate some kind of change, even if it is slow at first, small steps, just allow yourself the possibility of enjoying that kind of a change instead of fearing that you will lose touch with everything you know.

Because you already have a good idea that same old—same old is not necessarily good for you. Though there are certain things that are excellent within that framework, not everything is. So you can use your discernment and find ways to make the best changes possible and you will recognize rather quickly that even though there might have been some resistance initially once you are undergoing the process, you might have no interest whatsoever of turning back to the clock, so to speak.”
